The title say’s it all, but give me a moment to explain to you in a bit more detail what happened. All this throws another angle into the discussion. Do Deer’s get aggressive? Bambi never did. Lets ponder this a while.
It was a wonderful Sunday evening and I was feeling restless so I decided to drop into the historic park just around the corner from my place, walk around, go up to the lookout point and take in the view of the George Washington Bridge. The weather was nice; it was the “Yaaaaaaay spring is coming soon” weather.
I entered the park and was walking through the trail when I spotted a deer feeding by the side of the trail, so I stopped and watched it for a while. He/She looked up, saw me, gauged that I was not going to harm him and continued to eat. I quietly walked past him on to the lookout point thinking of a deer’s life, eating grass and salvaging what he can when winter is buzz word. I am glad I’m not a deer. I like my fine dining and heated apartment too much.
Reaching the lookout point, I made myself comfortable and started to plot out some ideas for a site I’m currently developing and was so caught up with what I was doing that I lost track of time and only realized how late it was when I noticed the failing light as the sun dipped lower into the horizon.
I started packing my tings to leave, and started walking down the trail. As is usually the case I was lost in my thoughts of some random fantasy world of my creation, and startled myself when I almost walked into a deer that had planted itself right in the middle of the path and was refusing to move. It just stood there with eerie stillness and kept staring straight at me. (have you ever been in a wooded area in the dark all alone with a scary deer staring at you? Trust me its scary) So I decided to make some noise and hopefully he will move away and let me pass so I started making what I hoped was deer sounds = “shoo” “shoo” but he kept staring me dead on. It was then that I heard some rustling behind me, and when I turned around I realized that I had walked into a whole heard of deer. As I looked back I saw that they were circling around me.
That was when I got really scared. I tried to remember everything I knew about deer and if they got aggressive and all I could think about was cute little bambi. He never got angry. Did he? Well I was not going to take a chance to I slowly backtracked my way to the main park driveway and walked back down the “Well lit” drive way to the park exit.
Phew… how would you explain getting attacked by dear? I resolved never to walk that park again in the dark!
