WHAT CEASEFIRE IS THE LTTE TALKING ABOUT?

I’m reading todays news on yahoo, and this is what I see…

“Tamil Tiger leaders have dismissed the government’s threat to take Sampur. They have also warned the battle could mean the end of a tattered ceasefire the two sides signed in 2002, in an effort to end two decades of civil war waged over the rebels’ demand for a separate homeland.”

With all the bombing and fighting and everything else that’s going on right now, “…They have also warned the battle could mean the end of a tattered ceasefire the two sides signed in 2002…” what would the difference be? The ceasefire has not stopped them from killing innocent people and bombing innocent children all this time.

An excerpt from the same news article states:

“But Friday marked a deadline issued by the Tamil Tigers for more than half of the 57 ceasefire monitors to leave Sri Lanka – and the monitors have complied. The rebels demanded observers from Denmark, Finland and Sweden withdraw, after the European Union labeled the Tamil Tigers a terrorist organization in May.”

So what is this ceasefire that the LTTE is talking about and throwing around? They broke the ceasefire the first time they made a hostile movement against civilians and the government armed forces. Am I the only who does not understand this lingo?
