Boys and their toys! For the past couple of month’s I’ve been dreaming and urging to get my hands on the imate kjam, known here in the US as the MDA or HTC WIZARD.

T-Mobile MDA
Well finally I broke down and decided to buy the phone. Coupled with Google’s new mobile java application for its gmail service my life is set. I must say that I love the app. It’s imitation of the Google mail user interface that I’ve shamelessly come to love is uncanny for a mobile application. So far I’ve had no bugs so to speak.
The only issue would come in the actual installation of the app. The app is a java (.jad) file that needs a java runtime environment to run in. This is called the midlet manager. I cannot remember if I had one but I do know that after I upgraded my phone to the latest version of the ROM (also known as flashing the ROM) I was not able to find a midlet manager on my phone.
Well all is not lost. You can download a third party midlet manager here. The good ol guys at xda-developers.com has provided us with this and can be downloaded from here. This is very easy to install. It’s a CAB file, so download it, pop it in your active sync folder and sync your phone to your computer. Once the file is in your phone, navigate to it and click on it to install the midlet manager on your phone.
Once you have this installed on your phone you can now run java based mobile applications. YAY!
To install the Gmail app, just point your phone browser to http://www.gmail.com/app and download the JAVA (.jad) file. Your installed midlet manager should automatically intercept the downloaded file and run the app.
There you go.. Your done. Hmm now I’m going to go play with my new toy a little more..
