The launch of Sri Lanka’s (well i think it is) first blogging service

There are so many things that I’ve been dying to write about lately. The worse part of it is that I cannot even blame a busy couple of weeks at work. Work has not been the reason. I’ve just been a little lazy. Let’s see if I can make up for that.

While I have been lazy on the side of writing out exciting new blog articles for you to read, it does not mean that I have not been doing anything at all. One thing has kept me busy and I’m happy to announce that its ready for the public. [uhum… drum roll please… thank you.]

I am very happy to announce the launch (what I think is) Sri Lanka’s first blogging service. www.apeblog.com is now open for users to come, sign up and create your own blog. With WordPress Mu powering it in the backend I’m hoping this will give you, the users the same options and reliability that you would get from huge companies that have been in the market for a while, but at the same time offering a personalized service. If you have a theme you would like to use, let me know and I’ll see what I can do to add it in for you.

The skin is still a customized version of the default skin. This will change. I’m working a fully customized skin for the site and as you join this social of apeblog blogs you will see lots of juicy additions appearing on an ongoing basis.

With that I’d like to invite you all in for some kiri bath [virtual of course] and get on your way of creating your new blog and blogging for all your worth.

Of course, you do realise that those of the western world who are not very familiar with the sinhalese version of the word “ape” are likely to think the whole thing is blogging for apes?

    Would Jane Goodall be featured?

Of course, the idea is excellent – keep up the good work and never mind the bricquets

Wow! Well done, I was thinking of something like this for a long time.

Two ideas that you can use:

How about setting the front page to be a blog syndicator of all the blogs you have? Like Kottu, but for apeblogs. Easy for people to see what’s happening across the site.

Second idea, is to have Sinhala functionality. Do you have it? I think the time is ripe for Sinhala speakers to start blogging, and a free service aimed at them will really take off. You’ll need to get WordPress MU translated into Sinhala, there’s a way to do it. Later, you can add Tamil functionality too.

Congrats on this, I’m glad someone finally got around to doing this…

    Best wishes
    Yo

Yes, I realized this after registering the url, but hey I guess to each their own :) though it might be interesting to hear what apes really have to say about global warming, getting chased out of their natural habitats and in general made an ape of :) )

    @Yo

Thank you for your suggestions. I am looking to install a Sinhalese and Tamil language pack so that bloggers can post blogs in their language of choice. Converting WordPress Mu itself will be a bit more difficult but is def. something that i will be looking it to.

  4. Hi! Thanks for starting apeblog.
Sinhala blogs are already on the move at apeblog!

I tried really hard to find out the admin/s of apeblog. Finally I think I found you :-) Pls add a contact page there so people can easily communicate with you since this is still at a starting stage. Cheers and good luck!
