now how did that song go again….

Being the cocky bastard that I am, I am jumping the gun here and will probably have to eat my word if things turn and go the other way. But for now… let me recollect…

how did that popular song from 1996 go….

“we are the champions…. we are the champions…” :)

Come on.. I know I was not the only one humming this catchy little tune the whole time ;-)

Now lets get back to business. This world cup has been very interesting. India and Pakistan out of the game before the super 8’s, kind of leaves me wondering. Could there be some thing that we don’t know? While I am happy they are out (for obvious reasons being it makes it a little easier for us) it also makes it a little sad. They are both very good teams and to think of a world but semi’s without them there to build up anticipation and just add that final touch of spark to the air will be a loss to the overall atmosphere of the tournament. Not that we don’t have enough competition to worry about. Australia (even though rumored not to be in form) seem to be in cracking form. We have South Africa, New Zealand, Kenya and of course West Indies.

I have my doubts about England. They still have not seemed to get their machinery in smooth motion. Something does not seem to be clicking for them. Bangladesh: the hidden element if you ask me. They beat India, and while it may be true that India may not have played their best match to day on that day, we should definitely not underestimate them. With Dav coaching them let us all assume that they know out every weakness and have a game plan ready to deal with all our players.

While I think we have a very good chance to pull off another 1996 styles victory I guess what all this rambling is going is to say lets not let cocky and keep a good head on our shoulders and play a good game of cricket. If we can do that I think we can do it..

3 cheers for Sri Lanka this 2007 Cricket World Cup!

A follow up to Ranidu’s album pre-launch party.

As a follow up to the two clips I had uploaded last week, I got a lot of messages asking me if I had any more. So in response to this I’ve uploaded a few more clips that I took inside the lounge itself. The lighting was not the greatest so it’s kind of dark but most of the clips focus on the dance floor and you are able to listen to some of the music and see the crowd’s reaction to it.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Please feel free to leave comments.

Clips from Ranidu’s 3rd Album pre-launch party in New York

I have some very interesting news for everyone who is reading this at kottu. We had a moment of Sri Lankan pride last night when Ranidu successfully had his pre-launch party for his 3rd album at Sutra Lounge in the East Village here in New York. This is the first time that a Sri Lankan artist has been able to penetrate such an audience and everyone loved it.

Many people there could not understand the lyrics but they were all feeling the music and the dance floor was packed. His 3rd album labeled “Ranidu” releases in march officially in Sri Lanka. Enjoy some of these video’s that I snapped off my camera. The first one is Ranidu being introduced to the crowds at Sutra and the other is his message to all Sri Lankans and all music lovers all over.

The launch of Sri Lanka’s (well i think it is) first blogging service

There are so many things that I’ve been dying to write about lately. The worse part of it is that I cannot even blame a busy couple of weeks at work. Work has not been the reason. I’ve just been a little lazy. Let’s see if I can make up for that.

While I have been lazy on the side of writing out exciting new blog articles for you to read, it does not mean that I have not been doing anything at all. One thing has kept me busy and I’m happy to announce that its ready for the public. [uhum… drum roll please… thank you.]

I am very happy to announce the launch (what I think is) Sri Lanka’s first blogging service. www.apeblog.com is now open for users to come, sign up and create your own blog. With WordPress Mu powering it in the backend I’m hoping this will give you, the users the same options and reliability that you would get from huge companies that have been in the market for a while, but at the same time offering a personalized service. If you have a theme you would like to use, let me know and I’ll see what I can do to add it in for you.

The skin is still a customized version of the default skin. This will change. I’m working a fully customized skin for the site and as you join this social of apeblog blogs you will see lots of juicy additions appearing on an ongoing basis.

With that I’d like to invite you all in for some kiri bath [virtual of course] and get on your way of creating your new blog and blogging for all your worth.

How does lightning pass though you? and Cali was absolutely amazing

So Sri Lanka is doing fantastically well in cricket. Well done. We kicked some Zimbabwe ass. I guess thats an achievment for us to boast about.

N. Korea has indeed tested out it’s A-Bomb over the last weekend. In response the bush administration has said that it’s going to punish the N. Korean government by imposing severe sanctions on them.

We know that’s not going to work. Look what it did to Iraq? In the end the poor people of the country suffered. Children starved, mothers went hungry and Sadam got fatter in his palaces while he continued to make his weapons of mass destruction. OOPS! Sorry did I say that. I’ve been brainwashed by the general media. We now know that there were no weapons of mass destruction, and there never was.

In other news lightning exited though a woman’s bottom in Australia. Yup, you read that right. According to the article a woman was brushing her teeth and she had bent over to rinse her mouth out when the lightening hit the building, passed though the piping into her mouth. She was wearing rubber bathroom shoes at the time and so instead of earthing through her feet it appears the electricity shot out of her backside,” a medic told local television news channel, 24 Sata.

“It appears to have earthed through the damp shower curtain that she was touching as she bent over to put her mouth under the tap. If she had not been wearing the shoes she would probably have been killed by the blast.”

A note to all of us, if your gonna brush your teeth make sure your well earthed, and do not bend over to put your mouth under the tap!

On a more personal note I absolutely loved my weekend getaway in California. Ashley and I spent it in North Cali, along the coast and it was splendid. The weather was fantastic, the scenery was completely serene and reminded me so much of Sri Lanka. I had a blast!

The JFP have accused the SLFP of being involved in the world’s oldest population. Prostitution. The SLFP are said to be seething with anger at this accusation. (Really surprised look from the author) In retaliation the Koswatta police raided a brothel operated by the JVP leader’s (Somawansa Amarasinghe) sister and arrested a number of people who were later presented to the local court and then released on bail. The report goes on to state the following “…the Koswatta police said that the owner of the house, Somawansa Amarasinghe’s sister had fled the scene and are looking for her….

So we have the typical Sri Lankan political scenario of the kettle calling the pot black. Why bring up an accusation such as prostitution into the mudslinging competition. Illam Parripu. Didn’t Somawansa know he was attacking an area close to home? (hmm maybe he was under the impression his sister was running a legitimate business and the err nice ladies were her business associates?) [snicker snicker snicker, no pun intended]

Do not the politicians realize that they are all dabbling in the oldest profession in the world? Every Politian Sri Lanka has ever had has whored this once bountiful and beautiful country for their own profit. The only exception I would make is to Premadasa. He is the only president to date who actually did some good for the country while profiting from it.

So while the brothel mistresses err sorry I mean the politicians of our country accuse each other of prostitution we can take solace in the fact that this is nothing new, and that we have been whored out over and over again time and time again for as long as we can remember.

A Sri Lankan Hell – Joke time.

This is a different version of Sri Lankans in Hell – never yet seen one on Sri Lankans in Heaven…………

A Sri Lankan dies and goes to hell.
There he finds that there is a different hell for each country.
He goes to the German hell and asks, “What do they do here?”
He is told, “First they put you in an electric chair for an hour.

Then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour.
Then the German devil comes in and whips you for the rest of the day.”

The man does not like the sound of that at all, so he moves on.
He checks out the USA hell as well as the Russian hell and many more.
He discovers that they are all more or less the same as the German hell.

Then he comes to the Sri Lankan hell and finds that there is a long
line of people waiting to get in. Amazed, he asks, “What do they do here?”
He is told, “First they put you in an electric chair for an hour.
Then they lay you on a bed of nails for another hour.
Then the Sri Lankan devil comes in and whips you for the rest of the day.”

“But that is exactly the same as all the other hells – why are there so many people waiting to get in?”

“Because the Electricity Board is on strike and maintenance is so bad that the electric chair does not work. A Minister has stolen all the nails from the bed, and the DEVIL is a former Govt. servant. He comes in, signs the register and then goes to the canteen ………”
